Optical access network solutions of EPON

At present,access network is facing a series of revolution and challenge of technology and business model. The
change of user's business demand and industry integration bring new competitive situation. Traditional telecom
operators adopt ADSL or LAN access, but for the new business requirements, the traditional way can't meet, and
the cost of network transformation is high. As a radio and television network operator, how to build Setting up a

should be seriously considered in the current network construction. Only by building the basic network which can
meet the future multi service needs, can we obtain the development opportunity in the new market competition
environment.
At present, there are two directions for the development of communication network. One is the development
trend of all-optical network in the transmission layer. From ASON technology in the core layer to FTTP technology
in the access layer, all indicate the evolution of network bearer to optical; the other is the business integration with
IP as the core. The development of Internet makes IP become the most ideal service carrying protocol. MSTP, RPR,
MPLS and other technologies are all traditional transmission networks The rapid development of IPTV and VoIP
also indicates the development direction of IP Bearer. The network construction of access network system should
grasp the development trend of technology and market, and choose reasonable technology to build access
network.
As a new access network technology, EPON is very suitable for the construction of optical access
network (FTTB / FTTH). From the perspective of operators, the passive characteristics can reduce the construction,
management and operation costs, improve the rate of return on investment and increase new profit opportunities;
the architecture of EPON network is very suitable for access network construction, so that operators can carry out
business quickly and effectively and easily Network expansion; the high bandwidth provided by e-pon will meet
the users' increasing demand for network bandwidth, so that operators can have reliable network resources to
carry out multiple services; EPON network has good compatibility and can be well integrated with existing
networks; EPON not only provides the above advantages, but also has the incomparable economy of other FTTx
technologies, which can reduce investment and long-term construction Design cost.
Requirement description
Data access network is deployed in a residential area, providing data access service and telephone service in the
initial stage, and preparing for IPTV. When the time is ripe, IPTV service will be provided to customers to provide
high-quality network service.
There are 248 buildings in 7 bid sections in the community, including 690 household units and 9108 households in
total. In addition, there are several commercial, school and office buildings. In the initial stage, broadband Internet
service is provided for users first, and then IPTV, VoIP and other data value-added services are needed in the later
stage. In this scheme, the access of households is mainly considered, and the businesses, schools and institutions
will be adjusted according to the actual situation in the future.
The built network can provide enough bandwidth to achieve high-quality data access services and IPTV streaming
media services. The network should have good expansion and upgrading capabilities, and can effectively support
the business requirements of three networks in one in the future.
The services supported by optical fiber access network include:
Internet access: it provides ordinary Internet access, and has sufficient bandwidth guarantee for browsing pages,
uploading and downloading common applications.
VoIP: NGN for the future, providing network telephone service.
IPTV / VOD: it can realize various unicast or multicast video services, including IPTV service in PC or set-top box
mode and video on demand (VOD) service.
Scheme of broadband access network in residential area
Based on the data security and availability of the QoS and video service of the kdonx350 series, this paper
proposes a solution based on the QoS, data security and scalability of the kdonx350.
Network topology

OLT configuration scheme at office
Considering that the total number of users in the community is large, the design adopts olt2550, which is a 10u
design, plug-in card structure, and is planned to be installed in the central computer room of the community. The
full configuration of the equipment can provide 28 downlink PON optical ports and 28 uplink Ge ports. The OLT
can provide a maximum access capacity of 28gbps. It can meet the needs of broadband access and IPTV service in
the future.
PON ODN network scheme
The OLT of the project center is installed in the community, so the primary optical splitter is adopted, and
the 1:16 splitter is adopted. The optical splitter is considered to be buried in the ground or in the optical junction
box in the community. The optical fiber of the splitter comes out to the building and forms an end in the building
installation box. The number of fiber cores is configured according to the number of onu3346 configured for the
number of households in the building. Each onu3346 is equipped with 2 fiber cores (1 core for main use and 1
core for standby). For multi building buildings, two buildings share one onu3346, optical fiber to building 1, and
building 2 to use class 5 line directly through the pipe.
ONU deployment scheme
The initial goal of the work is to provide data access services for customers, and the later goal is to provide
customers with IPTV and IP value-added services. In line with the principle of practicality and economy, it plans to
deploy FTTB with Sonia onu3346, fiber to the building, wall mounted connector box, built-in onu3346, onu3346
out of class 5 lines to the user's home. Onu3346 is a 24fe interface client, which is a high-density and economical
client.
Extended access scheme
EPON system has good scalability, as long as the current network planning for the community, add splitter / board
card and other equipment, it can easily and quickly realize the expansion of the network, and will not have any
impact on the existing services. For example, for this scheme, FTTH (optical fiber to home) access can be provided
to some high-end customers in the community, and the peripheral customers can be quickly accessed (only the
optical fiber between the optical splitter and the user can be deployed).
As there is no specific requirement at present, this scheme will not be designed and configured in this way. It can
be planned after further communication according to specific requirements.
Features and advantages of the scheme
Using kdxepon platform can fully realize the design goal of data access network, which is very suitable for the
requirements of this scheme. From the above network design, we can see the main advantages of EPON as a data
access solution: the logical structure of the point to multipoint network topology is star connection, that is, each
ONU is directly connected to the office equipment to avoid the unbalanced network structure, Compared with the
traditional point-to-point or ring-shaped network, it has stronger access ability and expansion ability, and can
save a lot of trunk optical fiber and reduce investment. From the management point of view, using a set of central
management system to manage the whole network can avoid the shortcomings of poor management ability and
separate management of traditional access network. At the same time, it can manage the ONU port, which
provides great convenience for maintenance and troubleshooting. From the point of view of maintenance, passive
optical network uses passive components, which greatly reduces network failure points and supporting facilities
of peripheral computer rooms. From the perspective of network construction, EPON platform can achieve phased
investment, gradually expand the capacity in the process of operation, without wasting any resources and
increasing the rate of return on investment. From the perspective of operator market competition, with the rapid
deployment and expansion of kdx2000 platform, operators can meet the needs of users faster and more flexibly.
